Dibër Region is renowned for its wild landscape and traditions. Only in this region is the name of the regional capital not identical to the name of the region. The city of Debar is actually located in North Macedonia near the border with Albania. The main city of the region is therefore Peshkopi, a quiet town surrounded by mountains, known for its thermal springs.
The region is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. The Korab mountain range forms a natural border with Macedonia and offers moderate and challenging treks. The most attractive destination is a hike to Albania’s highest mountain, Great Korab, from the mountain village of Radomirë. Tourist opportunities are offered by Lur Lakes National Park and campervanists can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere at a family campsite by Lake Shkopet.
Dibër Region is a destination that combines natural beauty, adventure and an authentic view of the Albanian countryside. A visit to this region is a good choice for visitors looking for experiences off the beaten path.

Radomirë is one of the villages included in the “100 Villages” project, which aims to revitalize underdeveloped rural areas of the country. It is an example of a viable model for nature conservation and the use of forests and pastures by local communities. Clean air, springs, pastures and forests on the slopes of Mount Korab represent valuable resources that can contribute to the development of the area and transform Radomirë into a year-round tourist destination.
The area offers a number of natural destinations worth visiting. One of them could be, for example, Black Lake (liqeni i zi). Radomirë is characterized by a high number of farm animals, which are the main source of income for this area. The area is therefore well known for the production of milk and other delicious dairy products. In the mountains, locals collect herbs that are suitable for making tea. If you mention Mali Tea to them, they will immediately know what you are talking about and will certainly offer it to you for sale or give you a bundle of dried herbs.

Given that the area is inhabited predominantly by Muslim believers, from our own experience we recommend observing, especially for women, rules of at least basic shoulder coverage. But without worry, if you happen to forget something about it, you can be sure that you will be met with a warm reception. You definitely don’t need to have a prejudice that you won’t be welcomed or that someone will harshly hate you. The locals adapt very quickly to tourism, which brings them an opportunity to earn. Vesnice Radomirë
Radomirë is a charming village located in a mountainous region in the western part of Albania and is part of one of the longest and most important tourist trails along the Deshat-Korab mountain range. It is situated at the foot of Mount Korab, the highest peak in Albania. This area is surrounded by lush forests, vast green pastures and high mountains. A regular destination is Albania’s highest mountain Great Korab (2 764 m), which lies on the border between Albania and North Macedonia.
The village has preserved its traditional character not only through its stone houses, but also through the hospitality of the local inhabitants. Hospitality and faith represent key values of the local people and give the place an aura of a past, better world.
Their motto speaks for itself: “A home belongs to both its owner and its guests.” Radomirë is an attractive destination for visitors who want to escape the crowded destinations.

NP Lurë-Mali i Dejës
The Parku Kombëtar Lurë-Mali i Dejës National Park is captivated by glacial lakes and steep rocky peaks. A total of 14 lakes lie at an altitude of 1400 to 1700 meters, each with a unique atmosphere.
The park’s area was significantly expanded in 2018 by combining two original national parks. The park is set in a harsh landscape and offers visitors an incredible mix of alpine charm and untouched wilderness. The Lurë-Dejës National Park, established to protect the region’s biodiversity and cultural heritage, has become one of Albania’s most precious natural wonders.
The lakes are surrounded by lush flora, although some parts of the park were affected by logging and deforestation in the past. Currently, projects are being carried out to restore the original forest. The village of Lurë e Vjetër is an ideal starting point for trips to the lakes.

The peaks of the NP reach heights over 2,000 meters. Key tourist attractions are glacial lakes such as Big Lake and Flower Lake. The National Park is home to a range of wild animals that thrive in its diverse ecosystems. Mammals such as the brown bear, gray wolf, Eurasian lynx and chamois roam the forests and alpine meadows. Bird lovers can spot species such as the golden eagle, peregrine falcon and black grouse, which all symbolize the bird diversity of the region.
Climbers and adventurers are especially attracted by the challenge of conquering Kunora e Lurës (2120 m), while nature lovers can enjoy the tranquility in dense forests. The park is also an excellent destination for traditional rural tourism, as the surrounding villages offer a glimpse of rich Albanian cultural heritage with warm hospitality and local cuisine.

Access to the park from the southeast has been easy since December 2025. A new asphalt road was built that leads from Arras all the way to Lurë i Vjetër and road construction continues further into other previously inaccessible areas. The entire park is thus accessible to all those interested in exploring it. Before the road was built, the path was suitable only for off-road vehicles. Lurë i Vjetër is an ideal starting point for a hike to the lakes.
From the south, from the village of Macukull you can reach the highest mountain of the park Deja (2246 m a.s.l.). From the eastern side, an adventurous crossing to the lakes is also offered through the gorge Seta. The start of the adventurous route is HERE at the hydroelectric power plant near the village of Çidhën. Prepare yourself for a challenge in the form of walking along the edge of a water canal, with quite a steep drop beneath you.
Whichever way you go, the Lurë Lakes National Park will not disappoint you.

The trek to Great Korab is listed as moderately challenging, but it’s certainly not a walk in the park. It requires solid fitness and mountain experience. An elevation gain of 1500 meters is no joke. A ten-story panel building is 30 meters tall, so imagine climbing 50 of those buildings.
The route leads across steep slopes, mountain meadows and rocky terrain, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The reward in the form of a breathtaking view from a height of almost 2800 meters over Albanian and Macedonian territory is worth the climb. And one more warning. If you return from the Korab hike back to Radomirë, that’s fine. But if you cross the border and descend into Macedonia, you become de facto an illegal migrant. So don’t try it or discuss this option in advance with the Albanian police.

To climb the peak, it is ideal to set off from the Albanian village of Radomirë, easily accessible by car along an asphalt turnoff from the main road between Peshkopi and Kukës. Minibuses run from Peshkopi to Radomirë, not always on time according to Albanian standards.
When planning a trek to Great Korab, it is important to keep in mind that weather in the mountains can be very changeable and can change quickly. It is important to bring appropriate equipment, including warm clothing, plenty of food and water, and a map with GPS. Mapy.cz works great in the mountains.

For those seeking adventure or who simply want to explore the surroundings at their own pace, the hotel offers a bicycle rental, which makes it easier to make excursions to the picturesque surroundings. The nearby town of Peshkopi is located at an altitude of approximately 600 meters. It lies on a route connecting Albania with Macedonia and has a strategic position for trade between these countries. The name of the town comes from the Albanian “peshkopi” meaning bishop. It was once established here as a “bishop’s seat” because 5 of the greatest bishops from Dibra settled here.
From Peshkopi it is possible to visit the area of Grama mountain with the lake of the same name Liqeni i Gramës and the rock formation Gram Mirrors (Pasqyrat e Gramës). The area contains many trails suitable for all levels of fitness, which are located within a reachable distance from the accommodation, including short walks to the cave and waterfall Sopanika or the village Rabdisht with old stone houses that are still untouched.
In relative proximity to Peshkopi there is also the highest mountain of Albania Great Korab (2,751 meters high).

The journey from Tirana to Peshkopi was significantly shortened in 2025 (by up to one hour) thanks to the construction of a highway and tunnel. Besides Tirana, another possible arrival point is the airport in Macedonian Ohrid. The travel time from Ohrid airport is slightly shorter than from Tirana (if you don’t get stuck at the borders).
On the way from Ohrid airport you can visit Pogradec or the village Lin on Lake Ohrid. Don’t forget to try the endemic salmon-like fish Koran here, which you won’t taste anywhere else in the world.

Peshkopi Spa (Llixhat e Peshkopisë) was established on natural thermal springs that have attracted visitors from across the country and abroad for centuries. It is located just 1 km east of the city of Peshkopi, in a picturesque valley below the Korab mountain range.
The spring water has a temperature of 39.8 °C. It is sulphur-rich, full of minerals, and therapeutically radioactive. The history of the spa is quite long. As early as the 17th century, people knew of the power of the local springs and passed their experiences from generation to generation. In the 19th century, local healers began to use the water and in 1928 (during King Zog’s reign) the first indoor pool was built and in 1953 scientific use began. In 1989, a modern complex with 50 baths and separate cabins emerged – the first of its kind in Albania. In addition to a hotel with 60 beds, you’ll find plenty of private guesthouses and family accommodations.

Water from the thermal springs is rich in hydrogen sulphide (54 mg/l), rare elements, therapeutic algae and non-pathogenic bacteria. The flow rate is around 14 liters per second. The water helps with a wide range of ailments, such as chronic rheumatism, arthritis, neuralgia, spondylosis, back pain, post-traumatic conditions, gynecological problems (including infertility), skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis), stomach problems, constipation, gallstones and kidney stones. Ulza Lake Natural Park is something like a VIP zone for forests, aquatic habitats and nature lovers. The main stars? Two lakes – Ulza and Shkopet. The park was established in 2013, so it's quite young among protected areas.
Ulza Lake was created in 1957 when the Mat River had to get used to a dam being built in its path. The result? A nice 13.5 km² of water surface. The lower Shkopet Lake joined the party six years later – again thanks to a dam.
Both Shkopet and Ulza lakes are excellent destinations for inland recreation. Especially on hot summer days when the beaches are packed. That's where you'll find absolute peace and quiet. You can head to Shkopet Lake also with us.

And now a bit of technology. Lake Shkopet, besides its natural beauty, is also a useful producer of electrical energy. It supplies a power plant with a capacity of 24 MW and an annual production of 94 GWh. The Kaplan turbine plays the main role here. And who was Kaplan? Well, an Austrian who spent a large part of his life in Brno. So yes, we have a small Czech fingerprint here too! Energy is of course also produced by the higher-located dam of Lake Ulza.
For the brave, Lake Shkopet offers an adrenaline-pumping walk across a looooong suspension bridge. With a bit of imagination, you can feel like Indiana Jones there… or like someone who is simply trying not to fall into the water…. If that’s too much for you, try a smaller bridge across the Mat river below the dam. If you really like yourself a lot, you can cross Shkopet via a stone bridge.

The ideal destination to discover Lake Shkopet is the restaurant Malçi brothers with camping options. In addition to swimming and sailing on your own vessels, such as a paddleboard, you can take a ride on a motorboat.
If you also want to visit the dam Ulza, which lies above Lake Shkopet, you need to head up to the upper dam, during which you will pass the rope bridge, which will invite you to an adrenaline rush, and also the viewpoint, where you can take a selfie with the valley in the background.
After the stops, you drive above the upper dam to the small charming village of Ulëz. Here you must not miss the pastry shop, where you will find the best ice cream in the world. The experience of ice cream is enhanced by the view of the lake from the terrace of the pastry shop.
